This week has been eye opening for me. I have been reading a couple books about entrepreneurship, but one has really captivated me. "Street Smarts" by Norm Brodsky and Bo Burlingham. There is so much common sense business instruction in this book so far, and I have really enjoyed it. The number one thing I have learned so far is to focus not on revenues or sales, but focus more on gross margin. If the business is not making a profit, it will never make it. It is important not just to make sales, but to be selective in the clientele to ensure that each sale results in profit. As an entrepreneur, I struggle with coming up with ideas of what business I WANT to do, and what others will pay for. I have several ideas of service businesses I could start, and as that is what I enjoy, I will likely pursue something service-oriented. I personally do not find much value in products, so I have a hard time thinking of a product that I could sell to someone. I am not an inventor, so I do not have a burning invention to share with the world, either. In this course, I would love to learn how to brainstorm business ideas, and also to learn how to generate capital to bring the ideas to fruition.
